While many men may suffer from premature ejaculation, the exact definition of the condition may vary from one person to another. Some men may define premature ejaculation as being able to ejaculate within 2 minutes of intercourse, and some may describe it a ejaculating before his partner reaches orgasm.

Though premature ejaculation is considered a form of sexual dysfunction, many men may be pleased with their ejaculatory response even within 2 minutes of penetration, while some may not be delighted despite being able to ejaculate after around 5 minutes of having sex.

There are several medicines for premature ejaculation that one could use.The most popular are SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), which drugs are commonly used as antidepressants.

These medications are not originally intended for treating premature ejaculation, but rather cause delayed ejaculation as one of its side effects, and many have taken advantage of this particular effect.

Premature ejaculation has been linked to low serotonin levels, and since SSRIs work by increasing serotonin levels, this has been theorized to be its main mechanism in its effect on delaying ejaculations.

Although SSRIs have been effective in prolonging one’s ejaculatory response, the only SSRI approved by the FDA as medicines for premature ejaculation is Dapoxetine. This orally taken medication is also known under the trade name Priligy. It works in a matter of 1 to 3 hours after intake, although optimal results may be experienced after 2 weeks.

This medicine for premature ejaculation, however, is not advised of being taken along with alcohol, as its effectiveness may be lessened. It is also recommended that one does not exceed the suggested dosage of this medication within 24 hours, as adverse reactions could be experienced.

Another form of medicines for premature ejaculation are local anesthetics like Lidocaine and Prilocaine, which are often available as active ingredients of desensitizing creams or gels. These treatments work faster than SSRI’s, since they are delivered into the bloodstream within minutes after application to the penis.

Their main action is desensitization of the penis, which would eventually result in prolonged ejaculations. The main disadvantage to these premature ejaculation treatments is that it lessens the sensation felt by not only the user, but also his partner, during sexual intercourse.

Premature ejaculation medicines may be very useful in improving one’s control over his ejaculations, but there are some men who prefer natural medicines for premature ejaculation. These are natural ingredients that are commonly included in male enhancement supplements that offer additional benefits to sexual performance aside from treating premature ejaculation.

While many find them better than medications for premature ejaculation, one should be aware of their possible adverse effects or interactions with other medications to ensure safety.
